Hepworths takes tank to Festival of Speed

Horsham craft brewer Hepworth & Co took a new approach to beer supply for the weekend’s Festival of Speed at Goodwood Racecourse, by taking 8,000 litres to the event in a brand new beer tank provided by specialists Tankbeer UK. Similar recent tanked beer events have been also organised by Pilsner Urquell and Meantime across London this month.

The tank was filled at the Hepworths brewery with 50 barrels-worth of Goodwood Festival Lager, a 4% ABV organic lager brewed by Hepworths especially for the event, to which they have been the official beer provider for 11 years.   It then travelled to Goodwood to slake the thirst of an estimated 150,000+ visitors over the four-day festival.

Founder and head brewer Andy Hepworth said,

“Providing the beer for festivals, concerts and other events is a growing part of our business and we’re running at least one outdoor bar every weekend over the summer months.

“Goodwood was our first experience of tank beer and it was a very good one. Set up was easy, we were able to keep the Festival Lager flowing all weekend, without having to stop to change kegs, and beer quality was excellent, considering the extreme heat we were working with. It certainly feels that this is going to be the solution for beer dispense at many of our outdoor events.”

Tankbeer UK tanks use a bag-in-box system, with constant temperature control. No CO2 is needed and, since the compostable bag is replaced, cleaning and environmental costs are reduced to a minimum.
