Penpont Brewery opens specialist Beer shop

Penpont Brewery has just opened a specialist beer shop called The Beer Cellar in Launceston, Cornwall.

As well as stocking its own excellent beers in bottles and re-usable containers, the shop will also be offering other local, national and international craft beers and high quality ales.

Penpont was established four and a half years ago by Joe Thomson, and in recent months, the 26-year-old has also qualified as one of only 36 beer sommeliers in the world.

Along with opening the shop, Joe has also been busy with setting up an online store and has started exporting his beer to Canada and Russia.

“We brew our beers in a converted milking parlour near Altarnun on the edge of Bodmin Moor. We can’t sell direct to customers there so opening a shop was the logical step forward. We’ve been very successful in selling to distributors and pubs, but I’m very keen to build our relationship with the people drinking and enjoying not just our beers but some of the other high quality ales around.

“I’m also looking at the possibility of running beer and cheese tasting evenings and at teaming up with local restaurants to do food and drink matching events.”

The Beer Cellar is at 3 Chings Alley Launceston. Opening times are Monday to Wednesday 10am to 4pm, Thursday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Beer sampling is available. For more information, visit www.beer-cellar.co.uk
