Sharp’s Launch Draught Cornish Pilsner

Sharp’s Brewery has announced the draught launch of Cornish Pilsner (5.2% abv). The award winning lager, which was recently named World’s Best Lager in the World Beer Awards 2013, alongside picking up a SILVER medal in this year’s International Beer Challenge, will be available to a wide selection of pubs for the first time.

Sharp’s, based in Rock, North Cornwall, is teaming up with pubs in its South West heartland, the South of England, London and the Midlands, to offer lovers of premium lager in those regions a taste of the world’s best.

Clear and refreshing, with a herbal lemon aroma, Cornish Pilsner is brewed using Pilsner malt, whole Saaz hops and a Czech lager yeast. It is then lagered with English thyme, giving it a very distinctive flavour.

Cornish Pilsner is Sharp’s first keg lager and the on-trade roll out follows huge demand for the product. Bottled Cornish Pilsner has achieved the highest return on sales in Sharp’s portfolio, including the brewer’s flagship beer, Doom Bar. Blind taste tests have also found that Cornish Pilsner was preferred to other lagers within its competitive set.

Stuart Howe, Head of Craft Brewing and Innovation at Sharp’s, said:

“We are very excited and incredibly proud to present Cornish Pilsner to publicans and their customers. The brewing team at Sharp’s can take great satisfaction from the response and awards that this beer has already received. Premium lager drinkers are looking for quality products and a great flavour profile and Cornish Pilsner is able to offer this to consumers.”

First launched in August 2012, Cornish Pilsner will be available in 30L keg and 330ml bottle conditioned bottle. On-trade distribution will be extended throughout 2014 and Cornish Pilsner will also be available with selected off-trade partners.
