Brakspear Jazz and Blues Beer Festival

When: 8th to 17th November 2013

Where: Brakspear pubs in Henley and also London, Banbury and Brighton

Details: Thirty Brakspear pubs are set to stage live music performances during the company’s first-ever Jazz & Blues Week, running from 8th – 17th November.

Response to the festival has been enthusiastic, with the opening night event – a JJ Cale tribute in Henley – sold out well in advance, and high demand around other gigs. Every night sees a jazz or blues performance in at least one Brakspear pub, mainly in and around Henley but also further afield, with sites in London, Banbury and Brighton taking part.

Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “There is no better place to listen to jazz or blues than in the intimate environment of the pub, enjoying a pint of beer or a glass of wine and the company of friends and fellow music fans.

“November can be a flat month for pubs, with customers watching their spending pre-Christmas. However, we’re confident that many will decide to beat the ‘winter blues’ with some rhythm and blues, providing healthy revenue for the pubs taking part.”

Brakspear created the Jazz & Blues Week with the help of a group of music enthusiasts living in and around Henley, who helped to secure musicians for pubs in the area. All participating sites have been supported with tickets, posters, a Facebook advertisement and a section for their gig on the dedicated website – see below .

Jolyon Miller, tenant of the Row Barge in Henley, said, “We’re just starting to build up our live music, so Jazz & Blues Week comes at a good time for us. Having our event included within the bigger festival has definitely given it more of a profile, and we’re getting enquiries from some new faces, which is good as it means we’re reaching an audience beyond Henley. We’re not selling tickets to our event but based on the interest we’ve had, we’re expecting a good turnout and a great night.”
