Fynfest Collaborative Craft Beer – Feast Black Ale

For this year’s Fyne Fest — Fyne Ales’ annual beer, food and music festival — it decided to work with eight other breweries to a create a collaboration craft beer for charity.

Feast Black Ale was made by brewers from Fyne Ales, Alechemy, Hawkshead Brewery, Ashover, Buxton Brewery, Thornbridge, Elixir, Magic Rock Brewing and Siren Craft Brew. A portion of the revenue from each cask of beer sold will be donated to Mountain Rescue.

Fyne Fest is an annual event staged at Fyne Ales’ Argyll brewery. With more than 100 beers, local food and music over the weekend, the event attracts over 1,000 attendees. This year’s festival was the biggest yet, and with so many breweries attending it was the perfect opportunity to stage the collaboration.

Fyne Ales’ head brewer, Malcolm Downie, said: “Each year, lots of brewers come to our festival and we wanted to bring all of those skills together to make a one-off limited edition beer. It was great fun to work with some of our friends in the industry and to make a great tasting beer for charity.”

The name for the beer was decided upon by the brewers involved and derives from the collective noun for a group of brewers — a ‘feast’ of brewers. The style and recipe for the beer was a topic of great debate among the brewers before a black ale was finally decided upon. The beer has aromas of chocolate and prunes with chocolate flavours, a light mouthfeel and a liquorice finish. It will only be available in cask in very limited quantities and sold in selected bars around the country.
