Ska Band Madness team up with the Growler Brewery

British Ska band Madness have created a craft lager with Essex-based Growler Brewery – formally known as the Nethergate Brewery.

The beer – called “Gladness” – is said to be a very British lager – brewed as an ale but using only lager hops including the Noble Tettnang leaf hop for lovely floral aromas and Saaz hops to add a nice light bitter finish.

It will be available in Nicholson Pubs across it’s 800 strong nationwide pub estate 12 weeks from now.

It will also have a starring role in the company’s forthcoming Summer Ales festival – that finishes on the 4th of August – my birthday!!

The launch of this craft lager coincides with a launch of similar craft lagers from both Fuller’s and Marston’s – both of which have been announced over the last couple of days – so there definately seems to be a trend starting here – perhaps to grab a head start – as American craft brewers are now starting to look at the lager style too.

A launch event for “Gladness” took place yesterday featuring the band, and lead singer Suggs said:

“After many, many years spent in a pub discussing and debating what would be our ideal beer we’re very proud of our first attempt and we’ve got a great excuse to spend a bit more time in Great British Pubs”
