Bru Haroo! Comments
This was a tough decision for me – to award 3 or 4 stars.
I had a bottle before my dinner and thought yes very nice indeed – but to be honest wasn’t blown away. Yes it has a gorgeous and full fruity caramel up front flavour with hoppiness and bitterness coming through afterwards – extemely well balanced and a great example of how good a beer can be with English hops. This one has a pedigree selection of Golding, Fuggle and Admiral hops – and some Styrian Golding hops which may or may not be grown in England
After dinner and a sweet dessert – my palate seemed to pick up much more from this beer – and moved into 4 star territory. Averaging around 3.5 then – but I don’t do half points!
Beer Qualities
Brewer’s Description
Brakspear Oxford Gold is a remarkably zesty brew, with fresh, citrussy aromas and a firm, fruity flavour. Pale ale malts provide the beer with its gold-gilt shimmer, spruced by a hatful of crystal malts to give body, texture and a delicate honey’d wrap.
The blend of hops delivers a shamelessly fresh perfume and fermentation by our Brakspear yeast gives Brakspear Oxford Gold a fabulous, fruity finish.
Head Brewer’s Comments
Oxford Gold cask has a wonderful aromatic zesty aroma, great for a warm summers evening as the sun sets on the day. The bottled beer is made from English malt and a blend of English and Continental hops – a superb beer for a barbeque.
