Upham Ale Selected as Sole Ale for Southampton Boat Show

Hampshire-based Upham Brewery, is continuing its rapid growth with the news today that Punter ale has been selected for the first time as the only ale to be sold at the world famous PSP Southampton Boat Show from 13th– 22nd September.

The deal is part of a distribution agreement with Carlsberg, who will be the main lager supplier at the Show. Each year over 120,000 people visit the purpose built Marina in Mayflower Park at Town Quay, drinking more than 27,000 pints of beer and lager.

Now in its 45th year the PSP Southampton Boat Show is the UK’s leading on-water Boat Show and one of the largest of its kind in Europe, with 100s of boats on display as well as new and returning attractions.

Based in Upham in the Meon Valley, just a few miles from the River Hamble, the brewery has developed a close association with the yachting and sailing community. Earlier this summer Upham’s Punter Ale was sold onsite at Cowes Week for the first time, while the brewery has further nautical links owning The Navigator at Lower Swanwick on the banks of the River Hamble.

Punter, a 4% ABV malty ale with hints of syrup and toasted grain has become a firm favourite with locals to the Hampshire region and has proved to be Upham’s most popular ale and was a major hit at Cowes with over 2,000 pints sold.

David Butcher, Director at Upham Ale Company added:

“With over 120,000 thousand visitors a year the PSP Southampton Boat Show is a fantastic opportunity to be able to bring Upham ales to Southampton. To be the only cask ale chosen to be involved is a real testament to the taste and quality of our ales and we are very proud to be part of this year’s show.

“As a local brewery we are always keen to champion local events. The Boat Show gives us a great opportunity to be part of something which is not only part of the fabric of the local community but also attracts a national and international audience.”
