Butcombe Brewery wins Made in South West Award

Butcombe, the South West’s fastest growing brewery, has won the ‘Food and Drink’ category at the recent Made in South West Awards for its off-trade success story.

The Brewery has increased its product range of premium bottled ales and was chosen by the judges because of its excellent development story. This includes growing its branded distribution and rate of sale to a point where it is ranked 24th out of 400 breweries selling premium bottled ales. The company is currently growing at 20 per cent a year and now turns over approximately £20-million.

Guy Newell, Managing Director, said:

“After being nominated for the second year running, everyone at Butcombe is delighted to win the food and drink category at the Made in the South West Awards.

“For over thirty years we have been brewing quality ales and supplying a growing number of customers across the South-West. In the past two years Butcombe has seen its bottled ale business grow at an astonishing rate, sales have more than doubled, hitting the milestone of £1million of retail sales. The foundation for this success has been laid over many years; ‘quality, consistency and service’ are the principles that have seen an increasing number of consumers drinking our beers.”

“Butcombe focused on getting the right people, the right brands and building a positive reputation amongst its customers. Whilst there is more to be done, we are confident that an excellent foundation has been laid for continued success. Winning the award is the icing on the cake for all the effort, having others recognise the hard work that everyone has contributed, is a huge encouragement to continue doing what we do best, brew the finest quality ales!”
